Peter Kay presented the BRIT Awards 2010 last night at London’s Earls Court Arena to commemorate 30 years of the biggest UK music awards show. They managed to pull in huge names from the UK and internationally, with Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys all making the trip from across the pond. Funny fact of the night – everyone that performed at the awards went on to win at least one BRIT (only exceptions were Alicia Keys and Cheryl Cole)
Gaga was the winner or the night, winning every International award she was up for (the only one she missed out on was Best International Male!) and putting in a stella performance of ‘Telephone’ and paying tribute to the late, great Alexander McQueen, with a huge Gaga and Piano statue on stage in a McQueen outfit. The first Lady of style didn’t disappoint us with her outfit choices either; wearing whites and nudes, with a tiered coat dress and huge powered wig (presumably borrowed from BFF Elton John!) on the red carpet, and a nearly-naked catsuit on stage for her stripped down performance (no pun intended!)
My favourite performance of the night had to be Dizzie Rascal and Florence Welch, who did an a-maz-ing mash-up of Dirtee Money and You Got the Love, titled ‘You Got the Dirtee Love’. Florence looked stunning in her cut-away fishtail dress, while Mr Rascal looked daper in his tux. Lily Allen also gets honourable mention for her pink troupe of action men – loves it!
Cheryl looked fierce as she performed her number one song ‘Fight For This Love’ (and no, not ANTM fierce, just plain angry), and she looked darn good doing it. First wearing a white trench and aviators, then doing a blink-and-you-miss-it change into a sparkly hooded catsuit. The miming was awful, I mean really, really bad, but the ‘don’t mess with me’ attitude made up for it!
Alicia Keys, Florence Welch, Cat Deeley and Pixie Lott were the queens of the red carpet last night. Alicia’s Balmain dress was stunning and suited her shape, Florence added some va-va-vroom to her look with a Beyonce-esque number with built up hips, and Cat and Pixie looked beautiful in their intricate LBDs. La Roux was bang on trend with her boyfriend/androgynous suit and would have looked at home on a NYFW fall 2010 catwalk! And speaking of catwalk, Lily Allen almost pulled off the gorgeously gothic Chanel dress, but didn’t quite manage it. Dizzie Rascal did the boys proud wearing two very daper looks throughout the night.
